We are looking for a motivated team player with a native level of Chinese and very good English (written and spoken) and a high interest in the topic of energy transition. The young professional will support the team in Beijing in day-to-day project work. Further responsibilities will be research and project implementation support in the areas of emission reduction, renewable energy, energy efficiency, electricity market, flexibility of power system, sector coupling, and other related fields. He/she will get opportunities to be involved in a variety of project activities with German and Chinese think tanks.
The work will require great attention to detail and well-developed translating, writing, and research skills. The ideal candidate should work independently and flexibly. Previous work experience in research on energy and environmental science related topics is considered an asset.
About the project:
The project of "Supporting China’s climate targets through ambitious green and low carbon energy transition" helps China achieve its ambitious carbon peak and neutrality targets. The project will implement this through the following measures:
1.Strengthening policy-making to develop ambitious and efficient green and low carbon energy transition policies and cross-ministry governance at national level,
2.Enhance ambitious green and low carbon energy transition in coal intensive provinces,
3.Improve knowledge sharing and outreach China-wide and internationally on an ambitious green and low carbon energy transition.
The project is implemented by GIZ on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE) together with the Chinese political partner, the China National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC). The Chinese implementation partner is China Electricity Council (CEC). Meanwhile, Sichuan and North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), as well as Jiangsu and Baden-Württemberg (BW) have been selected as pilots for provincial and states cooperation under this project.
Your tasks:
The successful applicant will work in an international team supporting a wide range of project activities, such as:
•Translation and drafting of documents in Chinese, English for energy transition related studies
•Administrative and general support for project activities (e.g. database maintenance, event organisation)
•Support the team of conducting desktop research, literature review and data analysis for project related topics
•Support the team with policy monitoring and analysis for GIZ energy sector’s bimonthly newsletter
Skills & experience
Master or final year undergraduate student registered in a Chinese university and pursuing a degree in area related to engineering, energy, or environmental science, etc.
•Native-level Chinese (written and spoken), fluency in English (written and spoken)
•Previous work experience in research on energy and environmental science related topics is considered an asset
•Strong interest in the project’s topics including renewable energy, distributed energy, sector coupling and other related fields
•Excellent command of relevant computer applications (e.g. MS Office)
•Able to work independently, excellent organisational skills; efficient, accurate and high-quality delivery of all work-related output
•Excellent intercultural social skills and a team player
