Position Overview:
Duke Kunshan University (DKU) is a Sino-US joint-venture university approved by China’s Ministry of Education and co-founded by Duke University, Wuhan University, and the Kunshan Municipal Government. Located in Kunshan, China—approximately 30 km from Shanghai—DKU is a non-profit public welfare organization with independent legal status. It offers a comprehensive undergraduate degree program along with a range of graduate programs, featuring an innovative, interdisciplinary liberal arts education. The university currently enrolls over 2,000 students and employs more than 150 faculty members, with students representing over 60 countries.
DKU seeks to appoint an Instructor of Mathematics to support its interdisciplinary undergraduate program. In close collaboration with course instructors, the instructor will provide comprehensive instructional support for foundational mathematics courses, particularly in Calculus. The role may later extend to courses such as Multivariable Calculus, Linear Algebra, and Probability and Statistics, based on undergraduate program needs. Essential Duties:
l Support DKU’s Calculus courses under the guidance of the course coordinator and instructors by leading labs and recitation sessions.
l Provide instructional support for additional courses (e.g., Multivariable Calculus, Linear Algebra, and Probability and Statistics) as needed.
l Teach problem-solving techniques within the context of assigned courses.
l Assist in grading assignments for designated courses, as needed.
l Develop educational materials such as homework problems, WebWork sets, and similar resources.
l Curate and organize supplementary learning materials from online platforms (e.g., YouTube, open courses) to support student self-study.
l Perform other duties as assigned.
l University employees' job responsibilities will continue to expand in scope and depth as the University grows in size and complexity in its programs.
Skills & experience
Required Qualifications:
l Master’s or Ph.D. in Mathematics or a closely related field (e.g., Physics or Economics).
l Excellent fresh graduate will be considered. 1-2 years' work experience in teaching or assisting instruction in a higher education setting is desirable.
l Familiarity with computers, basic programming skills, and proficiency with LaTeX are desirable.
l Strong organizational skills, punctuality, and a readiness to learn and adhere to institutional policies and procedures.
l Demonstrated willingness to work in a multidisciplinary and intercultural environment.
l Strong written and verbal communication skills in English are desirable.
l Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
