Job description
Position Overview:
Duke Kunshan University (DKU) a Sino-US Joint Venture University approved by the Ministry of Education and co-founded by Duke University, Wuhan University and Kunshan City Government. DKU is a non-profit public welfare social organization with independent legal status. The campus is located in Kunshan Yangcheng Lake Science Park, Jiangsu Province.
DKU is seeking applications for a senior coordinator position for the newly established lab management office (LMO) to support the rapidly expanding teaching and research laboratories. Successful candidates will work closely with colleagues from various units, faculty members and laboratory staff concerning lab-related policies, equipment status, procedural updates, lab relevant data collection and analysis, as well as coordinate training needs. The senior coordinator is also expected to provide comprehensive administrative support for the office of research and lab infrastructure, within which LMO belongs to, in order to ensure compliance with laboratory safety and management relevant regulations, close loop management of projects involving multiple offices etc.
DKU is a partnership of Duke University, Wuhan University and the Municipality of Kunshan, China. DKU is located in Kunshan China, about 30 km from Shanghai. DKU offers a series of graduate degree programs and launched its undergraduate degree program in 2018. Our campus provides an innovative, interdisciplinary undergraduate liberal arts experience to a student body that will number 2500 students and 200+ faculty, with a student body represented by over 70 counties. There are currently 25+ teaching and research labs (including Biosafety Level II labs). The senior coordinator will provide integral support in continuing development of DKU’s lab infrastructure and for the core mission of DKU. The review of applications will begin on Jun.16 2025 and will continue until the position is filled.
Reports to:
Assistant Director of Lab Management Office
Essential Duties:
1. Assist in drafting and updating of lab relevant policies and regulations, arranging committee meetings related to the development and implementation of those regulations.
2. Facilitate communication between Lab Management Office (LMO), faculty members and laboratory staff regarding equipment status, procedural updates and training needs.
3. Assist in the collection and analyzing of lab infrastructure-related data and organizing it into concise summaries and reports.
4. Assist the Dean of Research and Laboratory Infrastructure and assistant director of LMO in relevant travels, meetings, and other general administrative work.
5. Support in the preparation and distribution of laboratory management documentation, including SOPs, training materials, competency assessments and compliance records.
6. Serve as one of the responsible administrators for the lab management system, as well as other relevant systems.
7. Responsible for updating LMO website (integrated with Research and Laboratory Infrastructure website) for equipment booking, access control, data collection, and knowledge sharing.
8. Work closely with relevant stakeholders on guidelines for effectively sharing research lab equipment both internally and externally, including the online booking system.
9. Coordinate lab open days for external visitors, design programs for broadcasting DKU’s lab infrastructure through organized events.
10. Coordinate with asset office on lab equipment relevant asset management policies and ensure efficient and effective implementation, as well as compliance to external and internal regulations.
11. Coordinate with internal and external experts in tasks such as reviewing requests of lab equipment.
12. Assist in managing lab infrastructure, including labs within and cross academic units.
13. Assist in strategic planning of DKU’s lab infrastructure, coordinate research lab training sessions, etc.
14. Perform related duties as required.

Skills & experience
Required Qualifications:
1. A master’s degree in relevant areas. Candidates with prior training in physical or life sciences labs are encouraged to apply.
2. 5 years of relevant work experience is required. 3-5 years of administrative or support experience in a laboratory or scientific environment is preferred.
3. Excellent language skills in English and in Chinese.
4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and experience with database management. Candidates with strong data analytical skills and experience in lab management systems are particularly encouraged to apply.
5. Excellent organization skills and attention to detail and accuracy.
6. Strong interpersonal, intercultural and written and verbal communication skills.
7. Self-disciplined, quick learner and target oriented.
8. Ability to work independently or collaboratively in a cross-cultural, multidisciplinary environment.
9. Experience in the development of relevant website and social media accounts, organizing tutorials and outreach events involving labs is preferred.
