Job description:
The position of the Advisor is located in the Cluster “China in the World” which was established in 2019. The Cluster bundles all GIZ projects and project activities which are commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and aim at engaging with China as global development actor.
The Cluster works mainly on the following topics:
· China’s development cooperation system and policies Sino-German trilateral development cooperation
· China’s development related commercial and public activities abroad
· Third market cooperation of Chinese and German companies
· Cooperation with Chinese industry associations on sustainability topics
· Business conduct of Chinese companies abroad including CSR, transparency and sustainability issues
One of the targeted sectors within the Cluster is the textile and garment industry, along with global textile supply chains. Currently, the regional project FABRIC is being implemented in six countries in Asia, including China. The objective of the FABRIC project is to promote socially and environmentally friendly production conditions within the Asian textile and clothing industry.
Your tasks
Management and coordination of regional project in the textile sector
· Serve as the representative of the FABRIC project in China, fulfilling requests and requirements from the regional team.
· Take ownership of the design, preparation, implementation, monitoring, and documentation of conferences (Asian dialogues), workshops, seminars, and other project events and activities.
· Coordinate the smooth implementation of events and activities for the Sustainable Terms of Trade Initiative (STTI).
· Provide support for the development of the Sustainable Textile of the Asian Region (STAR) Network, a regional producer's network.
· Assist in the development of the Asia Garment Hub, a digital platform for the region.
· Effectively collaborate and coordinate with colleagues, partners, and national and international experts.
Preparation and management of assigned project activities and work packages in the regional context in Asia and in Africa
· Support conceptual planning and design of project activities and events in China and abroad in close cooperation with Project Leaders
· Coordinate and manage assigned project activities and events, including results-oriented management of technical, organisational and budgetary aspects
· If required, support preparing and implementing contracts in line with GIZ rules and regulations, designing terms of references, monitoring and managing contracts in close cooperation with project leaders
Project development and acquisition
· Identify promising project opportunities with enterprise and government partners in close cooperation with colleagues in the Cluster
· Provide advice to GIZ colleagues in Germany and China as well as partner organizations in the public and business sector on setting up joint projects
· Support and/or take the lead in the preparation of new projects or work packages in the textile sector
· Maintain close contact with relevant units in GIZ on modes of cooperation
· Support to conceptualizing ideas for joint (overseas) projects with Chinese partners in the framework of existing or new cooperation formats
Information collection, research, analysis and presentation of findings on issues related to textile topics
· Engage in research and analysis on developments regarding sustainability standards in the textiles and garment industry with relevance for China and summarize findings for further use
· Establish and keep regular communication with research partners
· Develop and provide advisory service on the textile topic to the Cluster or other projects within GIZ
Skills & experience
Your profile
· Masters/MSc in a relevant field, e.g. economics, public policy, international relations, business management etc.
· 5-7 years professional experience, ideally in development cooperation in the textile and garment sector.
· Strong managerial and organisational competence
· Strong conceptual and business development skills
· Chinese native speaker and fluency in English (written and spoken), good German or French skills are considered a strong plus.
· Readiness to travel in China and abroad
· Very good working knowledge of ICT technologies and computer applications
