Job description
The main responsibility of the Government Relations Assistant relates to the coordination of the government relations nationwide and locally and manage working groups/forum under the supervision of the Head of Chinese Government Affairs and Government Relations Coordinator.
General Responsibilities:
- Facilitate Government related aspects of advocacy activities of the Chamber’s Working Groups/Desks by the instruction from the line managers
- Assist the line managers to develop and expand working level and senior level contacts and relationships with Chinese Government and Chinese organizations through advocacy activities, attending meetings, seminars and other events
- Implement the annual advocacy plan which is based on Chinese governmental and European Chamber calendar
- Develop and expand knowledge of Working Group/Desk recommendations by thoroughly reading and understanding the Chambers Position Papers and following issues related to the key recommendations of the Working Groups/Desks
- Coordinate and attend Chamber meetings with government officials and follow up as required.
- Monitor, respond and report on Chinese regulatory developments, Chinese laws & regulations, policies, and sectoral news as directed
- Assist Chamber staff in increasing their knowledge of the inner workings of the Chinese Government
- In coordination with the Business Managers, invite Chinese officials to speak or attend WG/Desk meetings and events
- Assist in the production and presentation of the annual Position Paper
- Provide interpretation during meetings with Chinese authorities if required
- Communicate with Chinese Government and Organisations on Chamber issues by drafting, interpreting and sending letters and faxes as required
- Liaise with other Chamber offices on issues related to Government relations, especially with Shanghai
- Support to Manage working groups including organizing meetings, drafting comments, position papers to authorities, as well as draft advocacy reports, etc.
Skills & experience
- Excellent command of spoken and written Chinese and English
- At least 1 year experience in Government Relations position
- Strong knowledge about Chinese authorities and practices
- Good understanding and interest in Chinese commercial and political environment
- Ability to interpret and translate English-Chinese and Chinese-English at a senior level
- An interest and ability to quickly grasp key issues in the areas of business, international relations, economics, and law
- Excellent communication and reasoning skills
- Organisational, social, and presentation skills
- High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to work under pressure, to be tactful, goal oriented, and a tenacious go-getter.
- Excellent computer literacy, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Internet Explorer
Preferred Experience:
University degree plus relevant work experience in an international organisation or government environment.
Interpretation experience within a government organization or multinational
