Dinner in Honour of EU Commissioner for Health

In order to broaden the discussion of health in China, members in Beijing were invited for a dinner in honour of the visiting EU Commissioner for Health, Marcus Kyprianou, hosted by the EU Deputy Head of Delegation, Dr. Michael Pulch, on 12th September.

The dinner was attended by the President of the European Chamber, Joerg Wuttke, and representatives from the Healthcare, Insurance and Pharmaceutical Working Groups.

In a lively discussion it was highlighted that although there is a high liquidity in China and some good regulations adopted, the State spending on the healthcare sector is in most cases not sufficient to guarantee appropriate access to health and the implementation of the laws.

Another issue that was raised by the members of the European Chamber was the shortcomings in hospital financing, resulting in over prescription, non transparent tenders and increasing healthcare costs. For insurance companies, was explained that it is impossible to offer sustainable and correctly priced health insurance due to missing data from the authorities.
