Lunch with Peter Mandelson In Chengdu

Representatives from the business community had the opportunity to have lunch with EU Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson while he was visiting Chengdu for the EU-China Partenariat. Firstly, there was a short presentation by Mandelson but his main priority for the lunch was to learn about the problems that EU companies face while doing business in Chengdu.

One of the issues faced by businesses in Chengdu is in intellectual property rights particulary in the components sector and trademark violations. The second problem faced is competitiveness due to some companies selling their products below the cost of production. A main point made by businesses in Chengdu is the difference in local regulations with regards to tax.
