On the 4th November, the Chairs of the Insurance Working Group and the Chairs and members of the Banking & Securities Working Group met separately with Director General Jonathan Faull in order to discuss recent developments (i.e the Shanghai Free Trade) and the issues that European insurers and banks face in China.
DG Faull was visiting Beijing for the 8th EU-China Economic and Financial Dialogue. This is an annual event that involves representatives of the European Commission and representatives of Chinese financial regulators. In both meetings the issues that were highlighted were related to the need for better coordination among regulators, ownership, geographical expansion constraints and the speed and transparency of license approval procedures.
