The Nanjing Chapter of the European Chamber of Commerce is glad to announce its new F&T forum Co-Chair, Ms. Wu Rong.

Used to act as Co-Chairman of F&T forum from 2004 to 2005, Ms. Wu is currently working for Wartsila CME as Deputy General Manager Finance in Zhenjiang. With her experience as Co-Chairman before and a seventeen years experience working in financial department of four different foreign companies, Ms. Wu has a lot of ideas and expectations for the F&T forum.

When asked about her opinion on the F&T forum for 2011, Ms. Wu listed around ten topics and suggested to do a survey with close questions for our members to learn about the interests of them. She said finance people will be more interested in the topics that they are not so familiar with instead of technological themes which they already know. Besides, she expected to add more vitality to the forum and change people’s prejudice that finance people are all too shy to communicate with others. In order to fulfill this, she advised to make topics more attractive, set some interactive games during the forum and hold an F&T Mixer like other forums to make participants more active.

About finance work, Ms. Wu apparently has her individual insight. According to her ideas, finance people should try to participate throughout the process of the value chain in their company, thus their thoughts will not be limited only in finance department. Ms. Wu confessed that her thirteen years working in Siemens provided her with a good opportunity to join all departments’ work during each project. It has laid solid foundation for her systematic thoughts in the future work. Besides, finance people have to comply with the KISS principle, which is Keep Information Stupid and Simple, to make numbers easy to understand even by amateurs. She also suggested a way for finance people to avoid conflicts with their colleagues by asking more questions rather than telling other people what they should do. Because people tend to resist when others told them what to do, but they will be convinced when they get the answers by themselves.

As a mother of a fourteen years old girl, Ms. Wu’s home is in Nanjing but she works in Zhenjiang from Monday to Friday. She said her boss’s support make it easier for her to handle her personal life, her current work and the experience in the forum. During the interview, Ms. Wu kept using this phrase time to time: I recently read a book and learned about something.

In sum, we have every reason to believe that this meditative lady will inject new vitality into our F&T forum.

From the European Chamber we thank her for taking the role of Co-chair and we wish her all the best in this new experience.
