European Chamber Welcomes Premier Wen’s Comments on Fair Treatment for Foreign Businesses in China
BEIJING, March 15th 2010 – The European Chamber welcomes Premier Wen Jiabao’s comments yesterday at a press conference in Beijing at the end of the annual NPC session in which he promised fair treatment to all lawfully operated foreign companies in China, and stated that he was willing to spend more time meeting with representatives of foreign businesses and listen to their views.
"We will institutionalize arrangements to level the playing field for foreign companies operating in China, and to ensure national treatment to foreign companies in China,” Premier Wen said at the press conference. “…..In the next three years, I hope to increase interaction with foreign firms so that [they] will understand Chinese policies better and we can get [their] feedback."
Said Joerg Wuttke, President of the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China, “We appreciate the Premier’s remarks and the spirit in which they were made. This tone of openness and engagement offers an important assurance to foreign companies at a time of some uncertainty and unease in the China market.
“What matters most to our members, however, is how such comments are translated into concrete actions that build a more transparent and predictable business environment. The European Chamber’s latest Position Paper offers more than 500 recommendations on reforms and improvements that can help to achieve this goal, and we are ready and eager to broaden and deepen our engagement with the Chinese government on how these recommendations can be implemented.”

中国欧盟商会欢迎温总理关于为在华外国企业创造公平环境的讲话
北京，2010年3月15日－ 在昨天人大闭幕后的记者招待会上，温家宝总理承诺会为在华合法经营的外国企业创造公平的环境，同时表示愿意增加同外商接触的机会，并听取他们的意见。中国欧盟商会对此表示欢迎。
“我们要从法律上为外国企业在中国的经营创造一个公平的环境，而且使外国的企业能够享受同中国企业一样的公民待遇。”在记者招待会上，温总理说，“今后在我这三年的工作当中，力求能多增加一些同外商接触的机会，使（他们）更好地了解中国的政策，同时我也愿意听取（他们）对中国吸引外资的意见。”
欧盟商会主席伍德克说：“我们赞赏总理的讲话及其中蕴含的精神。这种开放、包容的态度对于外国企业在当前这一某种程度上不确定和不安的时期中保持信心至关重要。”
“对我们的会员来说，最重要的是如何将这些建议落到实处，以便建立一个更透明和稳定的商业环境。去年，中国欧盟商会的建议书提出了超过500条与改革和发展相关的建议，以期实现上述目标。我们愿意扩大和深化与中国政府的联系，以协助落实这些建议。”
