IT&T Working Group Changed to ICT Working Group

Following on the discussion at the Working Group meeting on 1st April, the IT&T Working Group’s name will be changed to the ICT (Information and Communication Technology) Working Group in order to better capture the evolution in the industries and activities represented in the Working Group.

As we have seen in this year, China’s ICT industries have entered a period of a rapid growth as well as intensified competition. The roll out of 3G cellular services, together with the stimulus plan for ICT industry released by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), has not only provided great opportunities for traditional network equipment vendors but also digital content providers as well as semiconductors suppliers. However, the regulatory climate in China has not kept pace with this growth and significant concerns remain about market access, standards, and effective protection of IPR.

Therefore, the ICT Working Group strives to, on the one hand, help member companies seize the opportunities presented by the China’s changing ICT industry, and, on the other hand, raise problematic issues to relevant Chinese authorities representing a broad range of constituents affected by China’s ICT policies.
