The global pandemic has further accelerated the digital transformation of businesses resulting in increased reliance on e-commerce platforms, boom in the AI-related industries and digitalisation of production and delivery processes. With digitalisation of businesses, consumption too has increasingly moved online. Intellectual property (IP) is crucial to digital economy as it drives innovation and provides SMEs with comparative advantage over competitors. While digital economy brings about new IP risks like online infringements, it also creates new solutions for IP protection such as the use of blockchain technologies or reliance on sophisticated notice and take-down systems on e-commerce platforms or even the use of internet courts speeding up IP enforcement procedures. To be successful in digital economy, SMEs should focus on protecting their IP by adopting a comprehensive IP strategy taking into account the needs of digital economy.
European Union Chamber of Commerce and China IPR SME Helpdesk jointly organize a webinar on “IP Protection in China’s Digital Economy” to provide SMEs with the tools for designing a comprehensive IP protection strategy for digital economy. During this webinar, China IPR SME Helpdesk IP Business Advisor Mr. Matias Zubimendi will provide an overview of the major IP issues concerning digital economy, focusing on IP protection on e-commerce platforms, the protection of AI-intensive technologies and the use of blockchain technologies while Mr. Quentin Bottasso from Zhong Lun Law Firm will get more practical, explaining IP protection in contracts. Both experts will provide tips for designing a comprehensive IP strategy adapting to the realities of the digital economy. The webinar will end with a Q&A session where attendees can raise their questions and interact with the speakers.
