As part of its 30/60 carbon neutrality goals, China set a goal for renewable energy to exceed fossil fuel capacity by 2025, a target that has already been reached two years ahead of schedule. Renewable energy sources, as China defines them, now make up over half of the country’s power capacity. However, China’s energy consumption mix remains heavily reliant on fossil fuels, with China’s coal usage exceeding the rest of the world combined in 2022. With climate change-induced power shortages and extreme weather conditions becoming more frequent, the path towards carbon neutrality will be crucial for China to maintain its competitiveness as a global manufacturing powerhouse.
Driven by stringent environmental regulations and growing consumer demand, European companies operating in China must find medium and long-term solutions to these challenges to reach their global corporate carbon neutrality pledges. How will China shift away from its reliance on coal and what advancements are needed in energy storage for a secure energy future? What steps are industry players taking to increase energy efficiency? What are the challenges of green energy procurement and how can they be addressed? How can companies ensure that their supply chains are sustainable?
The European Union Chamber of Commerce in China is pleased to invite you to the 2023 Carbon Neutrality Conference hosted in Shanghai, an event aligned with the European Chamber's Carbon Neutrality Action (CNA) Initiative which serves as a platform to identify areas of EU-China cooperation to achieve its 2060 carbon neutrality goals. This conference will address the complexities of the journey towards a green future, while providing actionable insights and innovative solutions for sustainable business.
