With the upcoming summer season, many manufacturing enterprises have faced the same imposed power cuts by authorities across South China which will likely continue for the months to come, significantly impacting production.
There have been short-term measures to mitigate the issue, primarily focusing on increasing coal-fired and gas-fired power generation. However, China’s commitment to hit peak emissions before 2030 and for carbon neutrality by 2060 is a great challenge to current industrial development, especially in the sectors of energy, transportation and manufacturing, among others.
Although some of the imposed power rationing is lifted in Guangdong, we believe the power shortage risk remains in the short run and is likely to become a recurring issue at least into the midterm. The affected region will not be limited to Guangdong, either. It will be worth a discussion about what to expect, which hopefully can help you develop strategies to tackle the power shortage issue.
In order to prepare our members for this volatile period of power shortages, we would like to invite business analysis experts to share their insights and perspectives.
