The Corporate Social Credit System (CSCS) is changing the regulatory context for all companies in China, including European businesses. From MNCs to SMEs - the CSCS rating mechanisms come with challenges as well as opportunities for everyone. To avoid the severe consequences of negative ratings and blacklistings while at the same time benefitting from the advantages of the CSCS, a solid understanding of its inner workings is indispensable. But the intricacies of the system make it highly difficult to navigate. Many misunderstandings about the CSCS are still prevalent, hampering companies’ ability to clearly assess the implications of the CSCS and make well-informed decisions on necessary reactions.

Markus Herrmann Chen (陈瑞华), a Swiss-Chinese, is an experienced advisor to European business and financial investors focusing on effects from China’s political economy and global geoeconomic developments on corporate strategies, organizational design and HQ-subsidiary interactions as well as strategic partnerships and negotiations of foreign business in the Chinese market. Prior to CMG, Markus worked as Government Affairs Director with Bayer MaterialScience in China and as Management Consultant with Boston Consulting Group (BCG) in its Shanghai, Hong Kong and Zurich offices. Markus is a Strategic Advisor Europe to Caixin Global, as well as Board member with the Stein am Rhein Symposium (stars) and the Swiss Chinese Chamber of Commerce (SCCC) – for the latter leading its policy and government affairs including the interface with European peer organizations and the EUCBA. He is further engaged in the advisory board of CEIBS Zurich and is a member of the World Economic Forum’s Expert Network.

Luisa, Project Leader, is a specialist on Chinese market regulation. She extensively worked on projects analyzing the impact of big-data enabled market regulation and regulatory ratings on companies. She also observes the current trends in China’s FinTech industry as well as emerging blockchain-based business models. Prior to Sinolytics she worked at the Rhodium Group, NYC, focusing on foreign investment activities in China. She holds a M.Sc. in Economics from the LMU Munich and a B.Sc in Economics from the University of Mannheim. During her studies she spent one year studying Economics and Chinese at the Nanjing University.
