Dear Shanghai Community Members,
World Environment Day (WED) is celebrated on the 5th of June every year, and is the United Nation's principal vehicle for encouraging awareness and action for the protection of our environment. First held in 1974, it has been a flagship campaign for raising awareness on emerging environmental issues from marine pollution, human overpopulation, and global warming, to sustainable consumption and wildlife crime.
Shanghai is making its step towards a more sustainable developing mode. With the new policy of mandatory garbage sorting starting from 1st July 2019, garbage collection and disposal, which helps control environmental pollution and reduce resource consumption, becomes an important topic for all parties. The CSR Forum promotes best practices already established by European companies and emphasises the importance of a strategic and innovative approach to CSR. The forum fosters CSR collaboration and co-innovation between the European Chamber, Chinese government agencies, professional organisations and local nongovernmental organisations.
The third “Zero Waste campaign” session, in the afternoon of 5th June, will provide a platform for you to exchange with speaker from the European Union Delegation to China, Head of Environment and Climate, First Counsellor, Ms. Vicky Pollard on ‘An Overview of EU Measures on Plastic and Marine Litter’, covering the European Strategy for Plastics in a Circular Economy and the newly agreed EU Directive on Single Use Plastics.
