The European Chamber of Commerce in China is delighted to have Christian Groeger, Client Relationship Manager at Fiducia Management Consultants, and Dr. Mario Feuerstein, Attorney-at-Law at Schulz Noack Bärwinkel, to talk about labour relations and their implications on business and society in China.
As seen recently in the media, especially in Asia, poor labour relations have lead to increasingly severe reactions from employees. Accordingly, the examples of Foxconn, a Taiwanese based manufacturer, which has achieved tragic fame due to a series of employee suicides, or the strikes at a Honda supplier's Guangdong plant earlier this year, show that employees have become more and more sensitive to working conditions and below-average pay.
For employers, questions arise how to prevent or react to these developments. This seminar will address questions such as whether this is a phenomenon that only afflicts Asian employers, or are European companies also at risk? Will demands for better wages signal the end of China as the world's factory? What legal frameworks are in place to protect employer and employee rights, and are they enforced?
At this first event of a continuing series of potential Future Trends, our two speakers will discuss the topic in depth. In the first part of this seminar Christian Groeger from Fiducia will talk about the socio-economic environment of the strikes and labour unrest such as labour unions, media, governmental agencies and FIE's and then concern issues such as (re)location and preventive measures.
Afterwards, Dr. Mario Feuerstein from Schulz Noack Bärwinkel will give details on the legal basis of strikes and labour unrest and the ramifications for enterprises. Furthermore, he will give a look ahead at forthcoming and anticipated regulations.
Join us for this special seminar, combining a breakfast with unique insights from our two experts.
