Dear Working Group members,
The European Chamber Construction Working Group and Standards and Conformity Assessment Working Groups are pleased to invite you to our upcoming Working Group meeting, where various industry experts will discuss the current landscape in China of green building standards and how European businesses interact with this system. The meeting will take place on Wednesday, 20th April from 15:00 to 17:00 offline in the European Chamber Beijing offices and online via Zoom.

Mrs. Betty Xu
Dr Betty Xu was born in China and got her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Shandong University of China, majored in Electrical Engineering. She then got her Doctor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering in The University of Queensland of Australia in 2006. She has had almost 10 years’ experience in industry, first as the software/hardware developer in an IT/Automation Company (from 2000-2002), R&D leader in a big household appliance company (2006-2008), then as the standards drafter, and standardization Director in a giant European electrical equipment manufacturer (2008-2013). Dr. Betty Xu migrated to Australia and had been working for Standards Australia since April 2013.
Dr. Betty Xu also had 8 years’ experience in Standardization and Technical Regulation. She was the drafting leader for several China national Standards and was involved in 2 IEC standards drafting. Dr. Betty Xu specially worked in the standardization area when she was the Standardization and Technical Regulation Director for North East Asia in Siemens Ltd China, from 2008 -2013. Her standardization work was focused on coordinating standardization activities in different areas, different organizations and different TCs. It also covered on promoting IEC and European standards in China, maintaining relevant government contacts to facilitate business, and fostering cooperation between European industry and China governmental ministries.
Dr. Betty Xu was also the Chairperson for Conformity Assessment and Standardization Working Group China of European Chamber of Commerce in China, from 2010-2012.
After working for industry for almost 10 years, Dr. Betty Xu had the chance to work in a national standards developing organization, Standards Australia, in 2013. Where she gained more experience and more understanding of the well-developed economy and its standards development strategy, scheme and process. Dr. Betty Xu was appointed as the “Seconded European Standardization Expert in China” (SECEC IV) in April 2018. With her strong industry experience, her rich knowledge in China/European/International standardization, her understanding on Standards developing organization’s operation mechanism and industry requirements, Dr. Betty XU believes that she will well facilitate this SESEC III project and make more achievements with this position.
Mr. Jinyan ZHAO 赵金彦

Currently Mr Jinyan Zhao is the legal representative and executive president of VELUX China. Jinyan is also the initiator of the ‘ACTIVE HOUSE Academic Committee’ in the organization ‘Architectural Society of China’. He has a rich wealth of experience in the field of construction in China and working with industrial and business leaders in Europe.
赵金彦,威卢克斯中国的法定代表人兼执行总裁、中国建筑学会中国建筑学会主动式建筑学术委员会的发起人。他在中国建筑领域、中欧工业商业领袖合作等方面都有着丰富经验。
Mr. Fallight Xu

Mr. Fallight XU is the General Manager responsible for the business development of sustainability services at TÜV Rheinland in Greater China. Fallight has 16-year working experiences in TIC (testing, inspection, and certification) industry with the speciality in a broad spectrum of environmental and social sustainability subjects.
As a strategist on corporate responsibility and sustainability, Fallight architects and orchestrates the implementation of TÜV Rheinland’s corporate strategy on sustainability services. He advises board members and CEOs from automotive, electronic, fashion, life care, FMCGs, oil & gas, and chemical industry on the sustainability transition of their businesses. Fallight also works closely with foundations (e.g. WWF) and international development agencies (e.g. The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit) to launch public private partnership projects in empowering the sustainability transition of economies and societies in developing countries.
Fallight is a credentialed practitioner in sustainability/ESG reporting. He is a GRI Certified Sustainability Professional and an Associate Sustainability Assurance Practitioner accredited by AccountAbility (UK). He sits in the Stakeholder Council of Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) advising the GRI Board on strategic issues. Fallight has developed the Chinese version of the Sustainability Code, a sustainability reporting normative framework devised by the German Council for Sustainable Development (RNE). Fallight holds a Master of Business Administration (with Merit) from The University of Manchester, UK, and a Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature from Nanchang University, China.
Mr. Gaspard Lemoine-Scelles

Gaspard has been based in China for over 6 years. After completing a Double Master's Degree of Science between Arts et Metiers Paristech in France and Shanghai Jiaotong University, he has been involved in environment-related activities. He is in charge of developing TERAO's building sustainability services activity dedicated to the industrial sector in China.

Simon Hu joined Erlab in 2017, first as Deputy General Manager for the Asia region and from 2019 as the General Manager for China to further develop the activities and growth in the Asia-Pacific region.
Erlab invented the ductless filtering technology in 1968 for laboratories to protect efficiently the health of laboratory personnel and purify the polluted air inside. Through more than 50 years of continuous innovation and commitment to safety, performance, energy efficiency and sustainability, Erlab has been recognized as an expert and participates in the writing of standards worldwide in the field of laboratory safety protection and ventilation systems.
Simon has a passion for technology and innovation. He is fascinated by the pace at which China is transforming itself from being the factory of the world to the R&D of the world and loves exchanging with others about ideas which can change the world and emerging technologies which can affect people’s lives.
Prior to Erlab, Simon held several positions in innovation in various multinational companies, first as an analyst for the Market & Industry Intelligence department in Orange Beijing, analyzing the emerging ICT technologies in China and then as Head of Saint-Gobain NOVA Asia-Pacific, the corporate venturing arm of the Fortune 500 Saint-Gobain company, to achieve the first partnerships with Chinese start-ups. He served as a jury to various start-ups competitions in China such as The Dark Horse (New Materials industry) or the China Smart Building International Start-Up Contest.
He holds a MS in Science Engineering from the Ecole Centrale de Lyon in France and a MBA from Tsinghua University.
