The European Chamber launched the initial phase of Cross-industry Mentor Initiative (CIMI) end of 2019, with a focus on improving female representation at senior management and board level in China. CIMI is exclusive to members of European Chamber and provides the opportunity for a learning experience for both mentor and mentee.

Charlotte Roule, CEO of ENGIE China, Vice President of European Chamber and Rachel Morarjee, Director of the Economist Corporate Network, former board member of European Chamber will speak about the values of CIMI and how this programme can facilitate the female leadership development in the European Chamber community. Mr. Jörg Wuttke
Mr. Jörg Wuttke
Jörg Wuttke is Vice President and Chief Representative of BASF China, based in Beijing. Since joining BASF in 1997, Mr. Wuttke has been responsible for helping guide the company’s investment strategies for China, negotiation of large projects and government relations.
Previous to joining BASF, Mr. Wuttke worked with ABB for 11 years; in fact his first professional encounter with China was in 1988 as the Finance and Administration Manager of ABB Beijing. In 1990, he returned to Germany as Sales Manager of ABB Power Plants Division, responsible for gas turbine sales to Africa and Russia. In 1993, he became Chief Representative ABB China in Shanghai and in 1994 moved to the President's Office of ABB China in Beijing, where he was responsible for the development and financing of large projects.
From 2001 to 2004 Mr. Wuttke was the Chairman of the German Chamber of Commerce in China. From 2007 to 2010, 2014 to 2017, and since May 2019 again he is the President of the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China
From 2011 to 2019, Mr. Wuttke was Chairman of the BIAC China Task Force of the Business and Industry Advisory Committee to the OECD (BIAC), a Paris based body of major business associations that lobbies the OECD.
From 2013 to 2016, and again since 2019 Mr. Wuttke is Vice Chairman of the CPCIF International Cooperation Committee, a group representing Multinational Companies in China’s Chemical Association.
Since its establishment in 2013, Mr. Wuttke is member of the Advisory Board of Germany’s foremost Think Tank on China, Mercator Institute for China Studies (MERICS), in Berlin.
In January 2019 Mr. Wuttke joined the International Board of the Stars Foundation, in Switzerland. stars - for Leaders of the Next Generation.
Ms. Charlotte Roule
Ms. Charlotte Roule
Charlotte ROULE is Overseas Representative in Paris of the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China and Chief Strategy Officer of ENGIE.
She worked in China from 2016 until this Summer, initially as COO, Head of Business Development and Innovation, then as CEO, of ENGIE China. In line with ENGIE’s strategy and values, she promoted and developed there clean energy (mainly solar) and clean solutions for cities and industries, such as district cooling and electrical mobility, as well as energy efficiency. She also served as VP of the European Chamber of Commerce in China from 2018 to 2021.
Before working in China, Mrs. Roule was based in Cheshire, UK, where, jointly with her team, she’s been developing the largest onshore underground gas storage of the country. Prior to this, she served as VP, Audit and Risks and VP, HR in Storengy, ENGIE’s affiliate dedicated to underground gas storage, based near Paris.
She is external trade advisor to the French Government.
Ms. Rachel Morarjee
Ms. Rachel Morarjee
Rachel Morarjee is director of the Economist Corporate Network, the Economist Group’s advisory network and executive briefing service. She has lived in Beijing continuously for the last three years, having begun her international media career in China in the late 1990s. Immediately prior to joining The Economist Group, Rachel worked as the Reuters Breakingviews’ China columnist, covering financial risk and China’s recent overseas investment splurge. She earlier served as a consultant at Brunswick Group advising Chinese firms on their global media strategies and non-Chinese firms on Chinese government relations.
Before moving back to China in 2013, Rachel worked as a foreign correspondent for over two decades, writing for the Financial Times in London, Moscow and Afghanistan, covering subjects ranging from the Taliban insurgency in Afghanistan to Russian banking and European stock markets. A fluent Mandarin speaker, she worked for Agence France Presse as Shanghai Bureau Chief as well as in Hong Kong and Kabul during the beginning of her career. Rachel read Chinese and History at London’s School of Oriental and African Studies.

Ms. Sarah Wagner
Sarah Wagner is project manager at Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, where she works on topics related to technical barriers to trade in the areas of digitalization, industry 4.0 and IT security. Before, she acted as Senior Policy Manager for international economic relations at DIGITALEUROPE, representing Europe’s biggest tech trade association towards the European institutions, WTO and OECD.
As ardent promoter of female empowerment, Sarah co-wrote the book Unleash Today, a handbook to help young women maximize their potential in the workplace.
