Dear Working Group Member,

The European Chamber cordially invites you to the next Agriculture, Food and Beverage Working Group meeting, which will feature a presentation on EU-China Cooperation in Food Safety by Ms. Gudrun Gallhoff, Minister Counsellor for Health and Food Safety at the Delegation of the European Union to China.

On November 6^th, the European Union Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, Mr. Vytenis Andriukaitis, has participated in the China International Food Safety and Quality Conference held in Shanghai, where he gave an opening speech on EU-China enhanced cooperation in the food safety field. For both the European Union and China, food safety and cooperation in this area is a preoccupation of critical importance, as related safety, traceability, regulatory and fraud issues have the potential to hamper trade between the two partners.

During this meeting, Ms. Gallhoff will provide an overview of the EU-China relationship and cooperation in food safety, and members are kindly encouraged to comment on and provide suggestions regarding what has been done so far and what still needs to be done further.

The meeting will be held simultaneously in both Beijing and Shanghai via video conference system on December 10th from 14:00 to 15:30.

Ms. Gudrun Gallhoff has been nominated Minister Counsellor for Health & Food in the Delegation of the European Union in Beijing, China as of 1 September 2018. Before her nomination she was deputy head of unit Official Controls and Eradication of Diseases in Animals in Directorate General Health and Food Safety (DG SANTE) in Brussels, Belgium. She joined the European Commission in 1996 and worked on pharmaceuticals, residues in food, general food law, cloning, food contact materials, food control and legal affairs. She started her career as a veterinary practitioner in Germany. Here she also worked for a state laboratory, the federal ministry of health and a laboratory/consultancy enterprise. Ms. Gudrun Gallhoff graduated from Hannover Veterinary College in 1985 and received her doctorate from the same institution in 1986. She moreover holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Master of Laws degree from British universities.
