In today’s society, competition among talents is fairly fierce, and at the same time the war for talents is also raging. Universities, as incubator of talents, are surely one of the targets for enterprises’ employment. Campus recruitment is one way for companies to employ new staff. What are the benefits of campus recruitment? What issues should companies pay attention to in the process? How to design recruitment plan and be well prepared beforehand? What’s the procedure for joining the campus recruitment fair?
Meanwhile, Post-’80 generation is becoming the mainstream of the current world, thus managers have to face a new challenge: how to manage Post-’80 generation staff? And what challenges should HR department face in employing this generation?
Ms. Julie GUO, HR Manager of Lafarge Dujiangyan Cement Co., Ltd. will join the upcoming HR Working Group meeting and as kickoff speaker, air her views on the above topics.

Meanwhile, Post-’80 generation is becoming the mainstream of the current world, thus managers have to face a new challenge: how to manage Post-’80 generation staff? And what challenges should HR department face in employing this generation?
Ms. Julie GUO, HR Manager of Lafarge Dujiangyan Cement Co., Ltd. as kickoff speaker of the HR Working Group meeting on Dec.14, aired her views on the above topics. And 33 HR people or interested attended and joined the hot discussion.
Campus Recruitment:
- The employment rate in China and Sichuan shown by Julie indicated that private companies, joint ventures and FIEs play an increasingly important role in providing employment opportunities.
- The KPIs revealed that in Lafarge, during the first 1 to 2 years work, some of the newly employed graduates easily change their job, the turnover rate of which reached 25% to 33%.
- Problems and experiences shared by other companies:
*The earlier the campus recruitment is carried out, the higher the contract-breach rate is, but on the other hand, the easier the good students can be hired. ( Timken)
*30% students are not majored in the industry they’re engaged, so the capability of learning is really important. (Timken)
*Introduction of the company in campus recruitment is one way to publicize it, so the person making presentation is a key; and also the career development should be blueprinted for the potential student candidates; to avoid high turnover rate, internship contract is an effective method which can give opportunities to both students and companies a second chance to make the right choice. (Bayer)
*Holding lectures on campus during the semester periodically can improve the image of companies in long term. (Right Management)
*“Junior Achievement”, a NGO, has programs to help students to set up career development plan. (Timken)
Post-’80 Management
- This generation is special due to various reasons, like political, economic, social, cultural and family structure, etc. Thus managers have to face some challenges when dealing with them, but trying to understand and communicate with them is a must.
- In some aspects, people may misunderstand them and think they’re lack of responsibility, fragile, self-centred, and so on, so what they need are training, motivation, respect, and psychological guidance, etc.
