The Second Annual EUCCC Cup Raises RMB 24,000 to support Educating Girls of Rural China

The second edition of the EUCCC Cup was held on Saturday, 9th June. Despite some rain, 16 teams, along with their supporters and families, came out in high spirits. Ultimately, the tournament was won by Harrow School who defeated Total 2-0 in the EUCCC Cup’s final. Led by finals MVP Roberto Jover Soro, Harrow went undefeated, avenging their semi-final defeat in last year’s competition. Meanwhile, in the shield competition’s final, Volkswagen Transmission defeated Airbus in another tightly contested match. MTR’s speedy forward Li Wei finished as the tournament’s top scorer.

From participating teams’ contributions and the on-the-day raffle, the tournament raised Chinese yuan (CNY) 24,000 for Educating Girls of Rural China (EGRC). EGRC is a charity that empowers women in rural regions of western China to escape the cycle of poverty through education. Since 2005, they have provided education to 842 girls from the poorest regions of rural China. The money raised at the EUCCC Cup will also provide one year sponsorship for four high schools girls, including their tuition, boarding, books and basic food allowance.
