Financial Services Conference 2014

The European Chamber held its annual Financial Services conference at the Grand Kempinski Hotel in Pudong on 20th November with over 100 attendees. The conference focused on the Internationalisation of the RMB. Lewis Sun, Head of Sales, Global Payments and Cash Management, HSBC China, gave updates on the RMB Going Global. Lewis Lu, Tax Partner, KPMG Advisory (China) Limited, gave a presentation on cross border RMB cash pooling in the FTZ and the associated tax implications and Eric Yang, Director, China Markets & Initiatives, Asia Pacific, SWIFT, gave updates on RMB use in cross border trade settlement.

The European Chamber had the pleasure of welcoming Shi Liya, Deputy Director General - RMB Cross-border Business Department, People's Bank of China Shanghai, who outlined the measures taken by the PBoC in promoting the RMB abroad. Zhang Xinyuan, Global Trade Service, Bank of China Shanghai Branch, finally gave an update on the role of offshore RMB centres. The conference ended with a lively panel discussion, Stefano Chao from AZ Investment Management joined the panel to comment on the recent launch of the SH-HK Stock Connect programme.
