European Chamber Shanghai Chapter participated in the Briefing on the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Shanghai Committee 2024

On 27th November, European Chamber Vice President and Shanghai Chapter Chair Carlo D’Andrea, and Shanghai Chapter General Manager Steven Basart, attended a meeting held by the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Shanghai Committee.
Xiao Guiyu, Vice Chair of the CPPCC Shanghai Committee, provided an overview of the work accomplished by the CPPCC in 2024, and noted that the CPPCC will continue to work closely with the city’s foreign business community in order to improve its business environment.
Vice President D’Andrea outlined key challenges faced by European Chamber members and called for recent pro-business policy pledges to be backed by further action. He also called on the municipality’s authorities to take further measures to ease challenges faced by firms when it comes to attracting and retaining foreign talent, and to simplify registration processes for companies wishing to relocate from one district in Shanghai to another.
Following the meeting, Vice President D’Andrea submitted comments, provided by the Chamber’s ten Shanghai-based working groups, to Vice Chair Xiao.
Officials from the Shanghai Foreign Affairs Office, the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, the Municipal Science and Technology Commission and the Shanghai Foreign Investment Association, as well as representatives from foreign consulates, chambers and enterprises also attended the meeting.
