On 22nd October, European Chamber Vice President Massimo Bagnasco spoke at the 2024 International Cooperation Conference on Sustainable Development, in Jinan, Shandong Province. Bagnasco highlighted the shared commitment by the European Chamber and China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) on international cooperation on sustainability development and the great potential of foreign investment in the city of Jinan and Shandong province. Bagnasco pointed out that though European companies are ready and well-placed to contribute to China’s decarbonisation drive, they experience challenges including lack of access to renewable energy, uncertainties over China’s national carbon-trading market, and less advanced green financing, among others. Bagnasco noted that there are many areas ripe for cooperation including green power, circular economy, green construction, ecological conservation, green transportation, and research and development on other green technologies, which are reflected in the European Chamber’s Position Paper 2024/2025.
Before the conference, the delegation of European Chamber led by Vice President Massimo Bagnasco held a closed-door meeting with Meng Xiangdong, Chairman of CCPIT Shandong Sub-council. Chairs of Environment and Energy Working Groups attended the meeting. The two sides conducted exchanges on topics including marine economies, waste recycling and reuse, renewable energy, and green construction.
