European Chamber Vice President Addresses at the 2024 China-Europe Industrial Investment Cooperation Conference

On June 20th, Mr Klaus Zenkel, Vice President of the European Chamber and the South China Board Chair, was invited to participate in the Guangzhou Development District / Huangpu District Global Investment Promotion Year-2024 China-Europe Industrial Investment Cooperation Conference and deliver a keynote speech.

In his speech, Mr Zenkel presented key data from the Business Confidence Survey 2024, which reflected the perspectives of European members in South China. He highlighted the European Chamber’s efforts in promoting the extended preferential individual income tax policies in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and expressed gratitude for the government's support in implementing these policies. He acknowledged the valuable assistance provided in addressing the problems faced by European companies.

Mr Zenkel also outlined the major challenges confronting European SMEs, including difficulties in accessing financing, cumbersome administrative procedures, cash flow constraints, and inadequate IPR protection. He advocated for clearer loan criteria, streamlined administrative processes, better payment terms, and stronger IPR enforcement and called for government support to improve conditions for European SMEs in China.

Additionally, Mr Zenkel met with Mr Xu Bing, Deputy Commissioner of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China in Guangzhou, and Mr. Huang Xin, Second Inspector of the Department of Commerce, Guangdong Province. Their discussions were informative and focused on fostering cooperation and addressing the concerns of European businesses in the region.
