Director-General of Tianjin Commission of Commerce Visited the Chamber Tianjin Office

On 20th July, a delegation of Tianjin Commission of Commerce led by Director-General Zhang Aiguo visited the European Chamber Tianjin Office. Tianjin Chapter General Manager Catherine Guo, together with Event Manager Lorraine Zhang and Membership Coordinate Peter Xue welcomed DG Zhang. DG Zhang thanked the efforts Tianjin Chapter have made as a bridge between European businesses and local authority for work and operation resumption during COVID-19. DG Zhang on behalf of Tianjin Commission of Commerce mentioned they hope the European Chamber would continue to support the Tianjin government for a better communication with the European businesses in Tianjin and beyond.

The European Chamber Tianjin Chapter General Manager Catherine Guo raised the issues faced by the European businesses at the present: 1) it has still been difficult for EU SMEs to apply for PU letters for their executives as their business have not been seen as priorities for Tianjin. So far only executives and engineers of EU companies who are related to major projects have been allowed and approved for the returning to Tianjin.  2)International school teachers returning to Tianjin is important to the EU community, however no any PU letters issued to International school teachers up to now. 3) Large-size European business have had aggressive carbon reduction targets since the year 2020, their plants in Tianjin are taking their local targets of carbon neutral the same time. But renewable energy, mainly renewable electricity, is almost not available in Tianjin now. EU businesses are keen to know the overall plan of Tianjin green development. DG Zhang thanked the Chamber to provide the information and needs of EU businesses, Tianjin Commission of Commerce would like to co-organize physical meetings with the Chamber to understand more details and support dealing with these issues.

After the meeting, General Manager Catherine Guo presented the 2020 Business Confidence Survey to DG Zhang.
