On August 30th, Vice President of the European Chamber of Commerce Carlo D’Andrea attended the 2019 World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) as a guest panelist. Titled Corporate AI Governance for a Better Future, the roundtable discussion focused on potential security risks for Artificial Intelligence. The panel brought together experts on AI-related fields from domestic tech companies and think tanks.

VP D'Andrea introduced the European Chamber and stressed the need for a multi-lateral approach to governing AI in the realm of automation, its potential for profound economic transformation, and the large-scale unemployment it is likely to cause. VP D'Andrea further discussed the governance risks with regard to AI security, which are considerable if governments fail to properly regulate AI corporations. With that in mind, VP D'Andrea called for increased cooperation and dialogue between the government and the private sector, and among different government entities as well.
