Sichuan Entrepreneurs Development Conference & Cooperation Contracts Signing Ceremony of Sichuan Entrepreneurs Development Projects

From 25th to 27th June, a high-level event themed ‘Sichuan Entrepreneurs’ Development Conference & Cooperation Contracts Signing Ceremony of Sichuan Entrepreneurs’ Development Projects’ was held in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, by the local government.

Participants included Peng Qinghua, party secretary, and Yin Li, deputy party secretary and governor of Sichuan Province, Fan Youshan, deputy party secretary of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, and Li Yunze, vice governor of Sichuan Province. Representatives of various departments and bureaus, foreign chambers, associations and organisations also took part alongside well-known entrepreneurs like Wang Jianlin, president of Wanda Group, and Liu Wenhao, president of the New Hope Group also participated. A total of 8,000 people attended the event.

In his address to the event, Party Secretary Peng Qinghua mentioned that with ‘5+1 industrial focus’ policy—which focuses on integrating the digital economy with the five industries of information technology, equipment manufacturing, food and beverage, advanced materials, and energy and chemicals—and optimised business environment, Sichuan now has great market potential in agriculture, culture and tourism and high-end manufacturing industries. He added that the timing for investment in the region could not be better.  

Massimo Bagnasco, vice president (VP) of the European Chamber was invited as a distinguished guest to the event. On 25th June, VP Bagnasco met with Vice Governor Li Yunze and delivered a speech on behalf of the European Chamber, other foreign chambers and organisations attending the meeting. In his speech, VP Bagnasco recognised the achievements made by the Sichuan Government in terms of attracting foreign investment and trade. He also emphasised that a more level playing field and a more favourable environment for foreign talent, especially skilled workers graduating from vocational schools, were critical to attract further investment.

The following day, on 26th June, VP Bagnasco met with Party Secretary Peng Qinghua and Vice Governor Li Yunze, and presented the European Business in China Position Paper 2018/2019 and Business Confidence Survey 2019.

Also on 26th June, representatives of European Chamber member companies attended a Sichuan Government-European Chamber exclusive closed-door meeting with officials from the Sichuan Provincial Development and Reform Commission and various local government departments.

On 27th June, the party secretary and mayor of Yibin Municipality received the European Chamber’s delegation and briefly introduced various local policies.
