Meeting with Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization on the 2019 World Artificial Intelligence Conference and AI Policies in Shanghai

The European Chamber Shanghai Chapter organised a joint Working Group meeting with Mr SUN Yue, Vice Director of Artificial Intelligence Development Section at Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization, to introduce the World Artificial Intelligence Conference and AI-related policies in Shanghai. Mr Zhonghua Xu, Chair of the Research and Development Working Group delivered the opening and closing remarks, presenting European Business in China Position Paper 2018/2019 to Mr Sun. 

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is not only for the AI industry, AI is increasingly becoming the driving force behind various industries and sectors, such as automatic drive, healthcare, education, and manufacturing. On 17 September 2018, in the World Artificial Intelligence Conference 2018 (WAIC 2018),  Shanghai published Implementation Measures for Accelerating the High-quality Development of Shanghai Artificial Intelligence, proposing 22 specific measures regarding talents development, open access to data, collaborative innovation, industrial agglomeration and financing support. This policy follows the concept of Intelligent Shanghai (AI@SH) proposed in the Implementation Opinions on Promoting the Development of a New Generation of Artificial Intelligence in Shanghai issued in November 2017. In order to further grasp the future trend, under the approval of the State Council, the 2019 World Artificial Intelligence Conference will take place in Shanghai on August 29-31 in 2019.
