Participated in China Utility Week

On 15 April, Joseph van der Elst, National Vice Chairman of the Energy working group, spoke at the China Utility Week, an event focused on the smart energy industry and attended by companies and both Chinese and foreign industry associations.

Mr van der Elst delivered a keynote speech on on the topic of "EnergyPLUS Building is smartgrid ready" in which he discussed the concept of energyPLUS. EnergyPLUS means that a building has both energy demand and capacity; an "active house" would be able to produce energy through various means, e.g a solar photovoltaic setup on the rood, and its yearly balance of energy capacity to energy demand would be positive. A block-chain system provides operation autonomy for smart grids by which energyPLUS consumers can exchange energy, prioritized over energy supplied by the nearest power plant, therefore conducting peer-to-peer (P2P) energy trading.

Mr van der Elst also participated in a panel discussion on the topic of "Development of a modern power market design".
