Meeting with China Council of the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) on Issues faced by French-owned Enterprises in China

A delegation from China Council of the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) visited the European Chamber and met with several French-owned member companies at Chamber office. As introduced by CCPIT, 2018 China-France High Level Economic and Financial Dialogue was to take place in France in early December. Vice Premier Hu Chunhua was going to Paris to attend the event. Before his visit, CCPIT was assigned to collect concerns and suggestions from French-owned enterprises in China, which was the purpose of this meeting.

The Head of Government Affairs Zhang Ziting welcomed attendees and showed appreciation on the long-term cooperation between the Chamber and CCPIT. Zhang Ziting stated that the Chamber was happy to see the commitment made by Chinese leaders in further opening up, but was also disappointed to notice that the implementation was not as strong as the determination. In the Chamber’s recent European Business in China Position Paper 2017/2018, 828 constructive recommendations were made to address issues in different sectors such as automotive, financial services etc. Problems like the unpredictability and lack of transparency in policies, different understanding and standards of local enforcement and “window guidance” greatly held back the healthy development of foreign-invested enterprise (FIE) in China. The Reform entered into “deep water zone”, yet FIEs were expecting more equal treatment and market opportunities.

During the meeting, working group representatives introduced their companies in brief. The issues of paediatric nutrition, energy, water supply and waste water treatment, certification, automotive and aviation were discussed.
