Job description
The internship presents an opportunity to gain valuable experience within the areas in which the Chamber is involved, including international trade, industrial development, policy research and advocacy. The intern will assist the Government Affairs team in monitoring regulations and compliance issues in the Chinese market, preparing industry newsletters and working group meetings with leading companies and the Chinese authorities, and responding to inquiries on Chinese laws, regulations and policies.
The intern position will support Chamber’s business managers in the Aviation & Aerospace, Maritime Manufacturing & Industrial Services, Environment, Cybersecurity, Information & Communication Technology, and Quality & Safety Services Working Groups.
Key Responsibilities
Government Affairs Support
- Conduct research on laws and regulations for various industries.
- Collect and collate member comments on legislation drafts in response to call for comments from national ministries.
- Manage compliance database and compose compliance reports for member companies.
- Draft legislation/policy briefings and newsletters.
Administrative Support
- Assist with organising working group meetings, including invitations, registrations, meeting minutes and other logistical work.
- Track advocacy activities.
- Help with English-Chinese translation and occasional interpretation.
- Other works designated by business managers.
Skills & experience
- Excellent command of spoken and written English and Mandarin.
- Background in Public Policy, International Relations, Economics, Business, or relevant areas is preferred.
- Genuine interests and/or previous experience in government affairs and advocacy is a plus.
- Excellent interpersonal skills (strong sense of responsibility, attention to details, proactivity, excellent communicator).
- Computer literacy (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
The internship will start in December 2022 and run for 4 months. Eligible candidates must be enrolled in a bachelor or postgraduate program and be able to work in the office at least 4 days a week. The pre-tax stipend is 100 RMB/Day.
