Through its business unit GIZ International Services, GIZ offers its experience and know-how in the form of a result-oriented service on the international market. GIZ International Services is the worldwide partner of decision-makers in politics, administration and business.
EU-China Action on Consumer Protection and Non-Food Product Safety in Asia
The EU-funded EU-China Action on Consumer Protection and Non-Food Product Safety in Asia is a brand new project of GIZ, scheduled to start in November 2019.
Presently, China is the largest exporter of goods to the EU but also holds the record for exporting the highest percentage of defective or dangerous products, with 53% of the overall alerts registered in the EU’s Product Safety Alert system originating in China. Not all cases resulting in injuries and accidents make it to the news. However, defective product design faults have had a series of negative consequences for human health and the environment in recent years.
This project will focus on making products from China exported to the EU safer, as well as raise awareness of the needs for product safety and consumer protection in China. This incorporates updating counterparts and associated partners on the latest legislation in the product safety and consumer protection policy area on the EU Single Market, as well as providing direct training and support to manufacturers and economic actors in the supply chain with regard to the requirements for safe products and the rights of EU consumers. An additional objective of the TA relates to more recent Chinese policies of expansion and relocating manufacturing (partly or wholly) out of China, which calls for studies of where the developments will lead, and to initiate dialogues with those countries with respect to product safety and consumer protection.
