The Sino-German Cooperation on Low Carbon Transport (CLCT) project of GIZ is looking for a Technical Advisor (TA) to join a highly-motivated and highly-skilled project team in Beijing.
The project CLCT is funded by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, and Nuclear Safety (BMU) and is implemented by GIZ. In cooperation with the Chinese Ministry of Transport (MoT), the project supports the Sino-German policy dialogue on long-term climate change mitigation strategies in the transport sector. It facilitates an exchange on the potential of digitalisation, innovative technologies and integrated mobility concepts for developing sustainable, low-carbon future transport and mobility. To achieve this objective, the project focuses on policy dialogue and advice, sector-specific knowledge sharing and research, implementing pilot projects at city level and expanding stakeholder expertise. To this end, Chinese partners are supported, particularly in the priority areas of urban and freight transport.

As a Technical Advisor, you will be part of a team that supports Chinese policy makers and government authorities have the capacities to elaborate and implement effective and efficient strategies to strengthen the development of climate-friendly freight and logistics transport (e.g. intermodal freight, urban logistics, new transport technologies).

In our project “Sino-German Cooperation on Low Carbon Transport” based in Beijing, we are looking for a highly-motivated and experienced (>3 years) Technical Advisor in sustainable freight transport, starting in January 2020.
Your main responsibilities:
Independently preparing and implementing project activities (e.g. studies, workshops, trainings, study tours) related to sustainable freight and logistics transport,
Independently developing and evaluating policies, strategies and concepts on sustainable freight and logistics transport (e.g. intermodal freight, urban logistics, new transport technologies),
Providing up-to-date policies analysis and information on developments of sustainable freight and logistics transport in China and other countries,
Conducting research work related to sustainable freight and logistics transport,
Creating and disseminating knowledge products (e.g. factsheets, blog articles, social media articles, posters, flyers) related to sustainable freight and logistics transport,
Developing new project activities related to sustainable freight and logistics transport and contributing to the development of new projects,
Maintain and actively develop a high-level comprehensive network of relevant experts and stakeholders in the freight and logistics sector.
General duties:
Planning with and supervision of short-term experts and consultants to implement project activities related to sustainable freight and logistics transport,
Introducing technical up-to-date expertise to the project and ensure the quality of project realisation with regard to freight and logistics sector knowledge,
Contributing in writing to project related reporting and communication activities,
Communicating with partners and relevant stakeholders, building and maintaining strong relations with national and international institutions,
Assisting in the implementation of other projects/programmes for which the Project/Programme Director is responsible,
Support the procurement of services, the development of Terms of Reference (ToR) and contract development needed to implement project activities related to sustainable freight and logistics transport,
Support the Project Director with translation/interpreting,
Supervision of assisting staff assigned to project (e.g. interns, etc.),
Skills & experience
Our requirements for the ideal candidate:
You are an expert in the field of sustainable freight and logistics transport
with a relevant university degree (e.g. in transport economics, engineering, environmental management or logistic management),
with at least 3 years of relevant professional work, ideally in an international environment,
You speak fluent Chinese and English (knowledge of German is a plus),
You have strong writing skills (English and Chinese, German is a plus),
You are creative and have strong analytic and research skills,
You are open-minded, curious and willing to learn,
You are a strong team-player who works reliably, pro-actively and follow-through with your commitments,
You have some project management experience,
You are used to work with MS-Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and have a sense for appealing visualization of media and publication related contents (e.g. presentations, posters, brochures), knowledge in the use of Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop is a plus.
