Job description
The European Chamber is an advocacy organisation and as part of our work we offer a bi-monthly magazine and several other ad hoc publications to our members. The European Chamber also organises many unique, branded events throughout the year.
The designer in Beijing will report directly to the content manager who is also the editor of the magazine. The designer will be responsible for the design and layout of the Chamber’s magazine - EURObiz, and will also be responsible for creative design work relating to events, marketing and other publications. The candidate needs to be highly innovative and have experience working on magazines, publications and other forms of creative design.
Responsibilities:
- The creative design lead for the bi-monthly EURObiz magazine, and lead on keeping track of purchases for the image library and sourcing images
- The creative design lead when it comes to consulting with vendors, or for the in-house production of Chamber-wide marketing materials (e.g. videos produced for Chamber events), large-scale annual publications, digital ad banners for Chamber events and announcements, and newly developed marketing channels (e.g. mobile apps)
- Manage the Chamber’s photo library
- Be responsible for delivering designs according to specifications and branding guidelines
- Manage schedules and workload with the content manager and estimate the time required for completing all required tasks pertaining to design and the magazine
- Attend regular meetings with the magazine’s editor to coordinate the appearance of the upcoming issue of EURObiz
- Prepare printing proofs
- Benchmark and monitor similar magazines
- Be responsible for directing photographers for Chamber event photography on the best way to present their work for use in the magazine and for use in other promotional tools
- Research and manage stock photography and illustrations to be used at the Chamber
- Keep up to date with the latest design trends
- Planning, coordinating and developing all European Chamber print, online and promotional materials
- Budget control for all publications and project related tasks/jobs
- Production of project plans for all publications and communication to all European Chamber offices
- Management of contracts and relationships with print suppliers and vendors.
Skills & experience
Skills
- Artistic sensibility and creativity – sound knowledge of design elements, such as colour and composition
- Profound knowledge of publication-related design software such as InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Affinity, Quark Xpress etc
- Possess strong communication skills – ability to effectively present ideas, both verbally and visually
- Attention to detail – carefully looks through designs and content to ensure any errors are corrected in a timely manner
- Organised and professional – be able to plan effectively, meet deadlines and stay within a budget
- Problem solving ability – must be able to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
Requirements
- Three years of previous experience in creative artwork for printing – either with print media or ad agencies
- A bachelor's degree, with an emphasis on courses in graphic design
- Fluent communication in Chinese and English
