The European Chamber has held the New Year cocktail reception in Chengdu on the 18th of January, which created the first important event of the city in 2006 by assembling 150 people from foreign consulates, provincial officials and European enterprises in Sichuan. The General Consuls of France, Germany and Korea have attended as honored guests, as well as representatives of General Consulates of Great Britain and United States. There are also officials from all provincial authorities closely related to foreign invested enterprises.

The event brought occasion of celebrating the first New Year of Chengdu Chapter since its inauguration in April 2005 as the spearhead of the European Chamber Going to the West campaign. Newly elected Board members were presented to the public for the first time. Aspiring plans on activities and development of the Chapter announced by Pascal Hermandesse, Chairman of new Board, have received active reverberation from attendees. Shi Zhenghua, Deputy General Director of Sichuan Department of Commerce addressed on behalf of the Sichuan provincial Government. Giorgio Magistrelli, General Manager of the European Chamber, has made a special trip from Beijing to attend this event and gave an address on Chamber's mission and prospect. Local Medias, Sichuan Daily, SCTV and Chengdu Economic Daily, have reported this cocktail reception.

A cornerstone has been set up for Chengdu Chapter as the platform of communication between European business communities and local authorities. The contact with provincial departments, from investment approval, capital administration, taxation to import & export concerned authorities, will certainly facilitate the establishment of lobbying channel of the European Chamber in Sichuan Province.
