Please join us at the next R&D Working Group meeting which will take place on Monday 17th October at 09:30 in Shanghai. We will be welcoming Dr. Gernot Klotz who is coming all the way from Europe to provide us with his insights on Public-Private Cooperation as a Driver to Create New Innovation Opportunities. Europe is excellent in creating knowledge and intellectual property. It is however weak vis-a-vis it´s global competitors in turning this knowledge into value within the increasingly short time-span. A short presentation will be given on how Europe is responding to this paradox with innovative initiatives and strategic approaches on research and innovation.
The talk will cover the latest status of the ongoing discussions in Europe in key areas such as:
•European view on research and innovation
•Priority funding areas of EU research & innovation for „Key enabling technologies“
•Research and innovation to attract investment and create market-pull for key enabling technologies advanced manufacturing, nanotechnologies, biotechnology, advanced materials and micro-nano electronics) and higher risk breakthrough innovation, like digitalization or CO2 volarisation
•Public –private cooperation models creating strong value chains to promote uptake of innovation (new industrial cooperations), initiatives in areas like „Smart cities and communities“, „Factories of the future“ and „Energy Union“.
•Thoughts about the structure and investment priorities of next European Research & Innovation Framework beyond 2020

Speaker Bio - Dr. Gernot Klotz
Dr. Gernot Klotz is the President of Kowledge4Innovation Organisation(K4I), a dialogue platform where EU Parliament members work with companies and stakeholder organizations to improve the political and regulatory framework for research & innovation in and from Europe. He also serves as Chair of the official Advisory Group of the EU Commission on Industrial Technologies within the EU Research & Innovation Framework program “Horizon2020” and the High-level Steering Group for the Conference “Industrial Technologies” under the present EU Slovakian presidency.
Dr. Klotz’s work experience includes more than 20 years at Bayer AG in various functions (pharmaceutical, animal health, crop protection, product development and corporate). He previously worked for the US Pharmaceutical company Amour. From 2007 to 2014, Dr. Klotz worked as Executive Director for Research and Innovation for the European Chemical Industry Council (Cefic). During this time served as a member of the Board of the European Technology Platform for Sustainable Chemistry (SusChem), as a board member of A.SPIRE Public Private Partnership, a contractual public-private partnership set up by the EU Commission and Industry dedicated to sustainable process industries and worked with the European Commission “High Level Group on Key Enabling Technologies.” He is a member of various advisory groups at OECD, EU Commission and EU Joint Research Center (JRC) on research & innovation policies and strategies, technology development and impact on environment and health.
