The 2017 China (Guangdong) – Europe Investment and Cooperation Conference is jointly hosted by the People’s Government of Guangdong Province and the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China (European Chamber), organised by the Department of Commerce of Guangdong Province, the People’s Government of Foshan Municipality and the People’s Government of Shunde District and supported by several European chambers and associations in China.
This event will bring together the European and Chinese leaders of politics and economics including the Ambassador of the European Union to the People’s Republic of China and Mongolia Mr. Hans Dietmar Schweisgut, the Governor of the People’s Government of Guangdong Province Mr. Ma Xingrui, the President of the European Union Chamber in China Mr. Mats Harborn and many industry leaders.
Topics discussed at this event include Smart Manufacturing, Bio-Medicine, Green & Smart Cities and Urbanisation, Invest in Europe.

Mr. Mats Harborn
Mr. Mats Harborn
Mr Mats Harborn is President of Scania China.
From May 2017 to May 2019 Mats Harborn was the President of the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China. He had served on the Chamber's Executive Committee since 2013, as Vice President and as States' Representative.
Mr. Harborn has been actively involved in Sino-European trade and business relations. In 2005, he was appointed as the Chairman of Swedish Chamber of Commerce in China, a position he held for 8 years. He has been the Chairman China Commercial Vehicles Board of ACEA (European Automobile Manufacturers' Association) since 2010.
Mr. Harborn has a proven record of successful introductions of products and companies into China over years. He is now the Executive Director of Scania China Strategic Office, responsible for setting strategies and paving the way for high end CV sales. He joined the company as the Managing Director of Scania China Representative office as well as Scania Sales (China) Co., Ltd in 2004 and held that position until 2010. From 1997 to 2000, he had been working for Swedish Embassy in Beijing as Commerical Councelor, a key position in Sino-Swedish commercial relations. In June 2000, he became the Marketing and Information Director of Ecolean AB, helping establish Ecolean as a credible business partner in juice and dairy industry and define it as a sustainable packaging solutions provider.
Mr. Harborn received a bachelor degree from Lund University on Oriental Studies and Business Admin (1984), and a training course from The Institute of Leadership (IFL) (2008).
As a multilingual user, Mr. Harborn has a wide ranging knowledge of Chinese culture and society beyond his business and rich expertise in cross-cultural management.
Mr. George Lau
Mr. George Lau
George Lau, General Manager of Products Accreditation and Certification Greater China, is responsible for Brand Protection at TÜV Rheinland, where he has worked for 10 years. Since 2011, Lau has held exchanges for authorities, e.g. AQSIQ, Shanghai Institute of Administrative Law, Hamburg Business Development Corporation, and manufacturers (e.g. Lenovo, Supor etc.) regarding EU certification regulations, risk management, receiving unanimous recognition. Previously, Lau worked as an analyst for ZTE Corporation. As a result of his performance regarding African market development – fulfilling Chinese central government’s mission – he was promoted directly to Assistant to the CEO. Since 2004, Lau has been studying the Chinese Communist Party, Chinese-foreign cultural differences, socialism with Chinese characteristics etc., to explore strategies of foreign companies in China. He believes that such knowledge is indispensable for multinationals developing in China. Lau is a German Chinese who immigrated to Germany at the age of 5. He is fluent in German, English, Cantonese, Mandarin, French and graduated from Konstanz University with magister juris in 2003.
Mr. Benoit Stos
Mr. Benoit Stos
Benoit is a French CPA with more than 20 years of experience in Accounting, Auditing and Tax fields.
He is the founder of Stos Advisory, an accounting firm established in 2017 in Guangzhou and serving European clients in China as well as Chinese companies and international entrepreneurs developing their activities in Europe. This presence on both sides allows to advise clients in a comprehensive way and to provide practical recommendations on various topics (internal control, tax issues, social compliance, cross-border transactions and financing).
Mr. Florian Schmied
Mr. Florian Schmied
Mr. Schmied is the Chairman of the European Technology Chamber (EUTECC). EUTECC was established in 2014 in Germany under the umbrella of China EU Urbanization Partnership. It is an international alliance operating at the corresponding period with the EU Pilot Project. The major mission of EUTECC is to help European companies and clusters enter the Chinese market, promote Sustainable Urbanization, facilitate the exchange between governments and regional bodies and promote academic exchanges. The offices of EUTECC are located in Munich, Beijing and Shenzhen.
Mr. Florian Schmied is the Chairman of Tucher Group, which is focusing on engineering, investment and development. He started the Chinese business of Tucher Group in 2005 and had been working in China for 10 years, before being promoted to be the Chairman of Tucher Group in 2015. M&P Group, Euro Sino Invest Group, and Huan De Group, are directly under Tucher Group and active in the Chinese market.
Apart from his chair position of Tucher Group, Mr. Schmied is an active consultant for the Vatican (Catholic Church) to help them implement projects around the world.
Mr. Maarten Bijl
Mr. Maarten Bijl
Maarten Bijl (1977) was born and raised in the Netherlands, and he holds a MSc aerospace engineering from the Technical University of Delft and an Executive MBA degree of RSM business school. Maarten serves as the CEO of Guangzhou head quartered SHV Energy China since July 2016, which is the holding company for all Chinese LPG and LNG activities Of SHV Energy, the global leader in decentralized LPG solutions. Operating mainly under the Xiweigas brand and with circa CNY 3.5 billion revenues and 5000 employees it is one of the leading LPG players of Mainland China. In South China, Xiwei is the market leader in off grid energy retailing and works closely with the government to improve local air quality through cleaner transport solution such as hydrogen and Industrial coal to gas conversions. The 2018 impact Xiwei’s activities had on reducing local emissions is the equivalent of planting 295,000 pine trees and letting them grow for 25 years.
Maarten has served on the board of the European Chamber of South China since April 2019.
Before coming to China, Maarten worked in different countries in strategy, commercial and general management roles. He started his career in 2003 at TNT Express on the commercial side of global supply chains, which took him to China for the first time in 2004.
Mr. Paul Li
Mr. Paul Li
Mr. Paul Li has 21 years of experience in telecommunication industry, mostly in research & development, recent years start to have additional responsibilities overseeing all the business functions that Ericsson has in Guangdong market.
Being a local Chinese and has been working for multi-national companies throughout the whole career so far, Mr. Li has the chance to witness how multi-national technology companies evolved their business strategy in China over years, especially R&D investment strategy.
