The European Chamber invites you to attend a RoHS Training Workshop to be held in Guangzhou, China on the 11th - 12th December 2006.
This two-day workshop follows on from a two-day RoHS Conference in Beijing which, with the support of the Directorate General for Trade of the European Commission and the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, will offer EU and Chinese authorities and industry representatives a platform for information exchange with a view to better understanding the compliance requirements of the respective European and Chinese RoHS equivalents
.
The Guangzhou workshop will focus on providing industry specific training, offering Chinese and China-based European enterprises in the electronics and electrical equipment sector the opportunity to better understand the compliance requirements of the RoHS Directive as well as introduce the Chinese RoHS equivalent which is currently being developed by the Chinese authorities and which is expected to enter into force in 2007.
Background:
On July 1st 2006, the EU Directive RoHS entered into force, restricting the use of certain hazardous substances in the production of electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) being placed on the EU market. These substances include various heavy metals (lead, mecury, cadmium, and hexavalent chromium) and brominated flame retardants (polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) or polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE)).
Adaptation to the standards and requirements of this new environmental directive will be difficult for SMEs with limited financial and technical capacity to absorb these changes. This is particularly true for SMEs based in developing countries that export their goods to the European market. In response the European Commission has funded the project and Chinese RoHS: Standards and Compliance Requirements through the Asia Invest II Programme. Implemented by the European Chamber and its partners, the project capacity building workshops will enable China based SMEs exporting electrical or electronic equipment to the EU to understand the requirements of the RoHS directive and develop appropriate strategies to minimise compliance costs.
