Dear Working Group Members,
In 2016, Chinese investments into the EU leaped 77% y-o-y to more than 35 billion EUR. As China continues to grow, develop, and integrate into the global economy, its overseas investments expand in quantity and quality, reflecting growing sophistication of the Chinese economy and broader Chinese commercial and policy goals. Brand new realities for the EU-China trade relations are therefore being shaped up.
How is this new scenario is going to impact our economies? What are the motives and tools used for Chinese investments in Europe? These and other questions will be discussed at the next WG meeting on 22 March, h 9:30 with Mr Bo Cheng, Partner at Zhong Lun. Bo will provide a seminar about “Chinese outbound direct investment (ODI) from a regulatory point of view”.
In addition, the Legal and Competition Working Group is going to elect one National Chair and three National Vice Chairs. The following members will run for:
- National Chair (based in Beijing), Mr Ronan Dior, Counsil at Gide Loyrette Nouel;
- Vice Chair (based in Beijing), Ms Sara Marchetta, Partner at Chiomenti Studio Legale.

In accordance with the European Chamber internal guidelines, the voting for the election (one vote per company) must be conducted in person at the working group meeting after each candidate has had the opportunity to give a short speech on why they would like to run. The duration of the term for both the National Chair and the National Vice Chair is one year. All elected chairpersons must sign the Code of conduct upon taking the appointment offer.
Following to the Chair and Vice Chairs elections, the remaining part of the meeting will focus on the discussion of the 2018/2019 Legal and Competition Position Paper. For your reference, please, find attached the 2017/2018 Legal and Competition Position Paper)
