The 13th National People's Congress (NPC) and the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) will start their first annual sessions on March 5 and 3, 2018. A series of meetings called "Two Sessions" (两会 líang huì) in Beijing to approve new policies and amendments and confirm leadership positions.
The European Chamber is delighted to welcome Mr. Joerg Wuttke, President Emeritus, European Chamber, Mr. Andrew Polk, Co-Founder at Trivium China, Mr. Erlend Ek, Trade Policy Research Manager at China Policy and Mr. Bruce Fu, Senior Director and Co-Lead of the Global Tech Practice, APCO Worldwide Beijing Branch, to share with participants the overview of the outcome of this year's 'Two Sessions', their political and economic implications and what's next for businesses.

Mr. Jörg Wuttke
Mr. Jörg Wuttke
Jörg Wuttke is Vice President and Chief Representative of BASF China, based in Beijing. Since joining BASF in 1997, Mr. Wuttke has been responsible for helping guide the company’s investment strategies for China, negotiation of large projects and government relations.
Previous to joining BASF, Mr. Wuttke worked with ABB for 11 years; in fact his first professional encounter with China was in 1988 as the Finance and Administration Manager of ABB Beijing. In 1990, he returned to Germany as Sales Manager of ABB Power Plants Division, responsible for gas turbine sales to Africa and Russia. In 1993, he became Chief Representative ABB China in Shanghai and in 1994 moved to the President's Office of ABB China in Beijing, where he was responsible for the development and financing of large projects.
From 2001 to 2004 Mr. Wuttke was the Chairman of the German Chamber of Commerce in China. From 2007 to 2010, 2014 to 2017, and since May 2019 again he is the President of the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China
From 2011 to 2019, Mr. Wuttke was Chairman of the BIAC China Task Force of the Business and Industry Advisory Committee to the OECD (BIAC), a Paris based body of major business associations that lobbies the OECD.
From 2013 to 2016, and again since 2019 Mr. Wuttke is Vice Chairman of the CPCIF International Cooperation Committee, a group representing Multinational Companies in China’s Chemical Association.
Since its establishment in 2013, Mr. Wuttke is member of the Advisory Board of Germany’s foremost Think Tank on China, Mercator Institute for China Studies (MERICS), in Berlin.
In January 2019 Mr. Wuttke joined the International Board of the Stars Foundation, in Switzerland. stars - for Leaders of the Next Generation.
Mr. Andrew Polk
Mr. Andrew Polk
Andrew Polk is the Co-founder and Head of Economic Research at Trivium China, a Beijing-based strategic advisory firm.
Before founding Trivium, Polk was the China Director at Medley Global Advisors, where he advised asset managers and hedge funds on developments in China's economy and financial markets.
Previously, Polk was the Resident China Economist at The Conference Board's China Center, where he conducted economic analysis on the Chinese economy for corporate clients.
Polk is the co-author of The Long, Soft Fall in Chinese Growth and maintains a deep network of professional contacts in the official, academic, and business communities in China – built over a decade of living in China and working on China issues.
Other research positions he has held include stints at the Institute of International Finance and the U.S. Treasury; he holds an MA in economics and international relations from Johns Hopkins SAIS.
Mr. Erlend Ek
Mr. Erlend Ek
Erlend Ek heads research on international trade at China Policy. Advising a global client network, his team tracks Chinese policy-making and debate on market access, investment, trade agreements and food security, mapping the strategic dimensions of trade policy.
At the company since 2013, Erlend spent years following agriculture policy, and is known for his deep knowledge of and extensive reporting on trade in agricultural commodities. As China seeks a more prominent role in the governance of emerging forms of digital and other high-tech trade, he monitors new trade modes and patterns emerging from the country’s more active engagement with the world, in particular through its Belt and Road Initiative.
Erlend studied social anthropology at University of Oslo and University College London.
Mr. Bruce Fu
Mr. Bruce Fu
Bruce Fu is a senior director and the co-lead of the global tech practice in APCO Worldwide's offices based in Beijing. He has a deep knowledge of China’s policy, technical standards, IPR, and competition-related issues in the ICT sector. At APCO, Mr. Fu provides clients with counsel on government relations building, operations management, stakeholder engagement and market entry strategy.
Prior to joining APCO, Mr. Fu was a business manager at the European Chamber, where he worked closely with the European telecommunications industry by lobbying China’s telecommunications policies and regulations. He worked closely with ICT Working Group members on telecommunications regulatory policies and TBT/Standards. He also directly engaged with Chinese authorities on antitrust issues related to implementing rules of Chinese anti-monopoly law.
Mr. Fu currently serves as the Vice Chair of the ICT Working Group of the EU Chamber of Commerce in China. He obtained master's degrees in European studies and European modern history from the Catholic University of Leuven. He is fluent in English and Chinese and speaks intermediate French.
Ms. Trudy Wang
Ms. Trudy Wang
As a Managing Director based in TrailRunner’s Shanghai office, Trudy Wang brings 14 years of experience in financial journalism, corporate communications, and crisis and issues management, combined with strong knowledge and insights about China’s marketplace and business world.
Prior to joining TrailRunner, Trudy led her own strategic communications firm, and she was previously a senior consultant at Ogilvy Public Relations, Shanghai. In her earlier career, she also worked for seven years as an investigative reporter at China’s most influential economics news journal, Caijing Magazine. Her reporting covered a broad spectrum of fields and topics including trade, investment, mergers and acquisitions, antitrust issues, intellectual property rights, and financial fraud. She is an often-published public columnist and guest speaker on China’s economy and media landscape for business delegations coming to China from all over the globe.
Trudy holds a Master’s degree in East Asian Area Studies from the University of Southern California, and she also studied public relations at Boston University. In December 2015, she completed the Executive Program for Social Impact and Strategy at the University of Pennsylvania. Trudy also holds an International Certificate in Investor Relations (ICIR) granted by the UK Investor Relations Society. A Shanghai native, she speaks Mandarin as well as fluent English and Japanese.
