The year of 2017 has witnessed tremendously progress in the development of sustainable urbanisation in China, particularly the EU-China Partnership on Urbanisation. From the calling for EU-China matching cities made by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) in the beginning of 2017, to the 2017 EU-China Forum on Sustainable Urbanisation as well as the 2017 China-EU Conference on Sustainable Urban Development, communication between China and EU has been increasing rapidly.
In addition, both EU and China have provided funds to particular projects regarding urbanisation, for instance, the Chamber is one of the partners in the Project EU-CHINA Innovation Platform on Sustainable Urbanisation and members have been involved actively in this project through contributing their expertise in certain areas. In December 2017, NDRC completed the mid-term review on the National Plan on New Type of Urbanization (2014-2020) and three areas were emphasized: development of characteristic towns, city agglomeration and other new type of urbanisation such as smart cities, low-carbon and green cities.
To update the members on the EU-China Partnership on Urbanisation and upcoming opportunities for European business in China, the European Chamber is pleased to invite Mr. Ignacio Asenjo, Second Secretary, Delegation of the European Union to China, to share the recent development on the partnership and his perspectives on the sector of sustainable urban development, followed by a roundtable discussion with members.

- one Working Group Chair based in Beijing or Shanghai to serve as the National Chair;
- one Vice Chair based in Beijing or Shanghai to serve as the National Vice Chair and Local Chair (a Local Chair can only be
based in the city where there is no National Chair);
- two other National Vice Chairs based in Beijing and Shanghai respectively.
Chair and Vice Chairs play a crucial role in driving working group activities, which include leading working group event programming and position paper, providing input on laws, regulations, standards and specifications in relevance to construction services, engineering, real estate and urbanization and communicating key messages to Chinese and European stakeholders on behalf of European Chamber’s Construction community. You may find more detailed description through the attachment. Practitioners in the industry of or have been engaged in construction services, engineering, real estate and urbanization are encouraged to apply. Ideally the Chair and Vice Chairs should come from the corporate sector. Representatives from consulting industry or NGO sector will also be considered.
Should you be interested in putting your name forward for election or nominate any candidate, please send a CV and a motivation letter in English, stating which position (National Chair or National Vice Chair) you intend to run for, why you wish to be elected as National Chair or National Vice Chair and a set of goals you have for the Construction Working Group to Mr. Kevin Gao at kgao@europeanchamber.com.cn in Beijing or Mr. Antonio Salvador at asalvador@europeanchamber.com.cn in Shanghai by Friday, 2 March 2018 COB.
In accordance with European Chamber internal guidelines, the voting for the election, one vote per company, must be conducted in person at the working group meeting after each candidate has had the opportunity to give a short speech on why they would like to run.
