Dear Auto Components Working Group Members,

The European Chamber is delighted to invite you to join the next Auto Components Working Group Meeting: Observations in 2018 Global Automotive Supplier Study at 9.00-10.30, on the 26^th of January, 2018, at the European Chamber Shanghai Office.

The automotive industry has seen a continuation of global growth in 2017. However, first signs of weakening are visible with softening of growth in China and Europe, and a slight volume decline in the US. In this still favorable environment, the global supplier industry is expected to increase its revenues by 3 per cent, and maintain its profitability level with an average EBIT margin of ~7 per cent in 2017. For 2018, we expect continued growth for the global supplier base, but at a slower pace with stable EBIT margins.

In order to succeed in the new automotive environment, suppliers will have to transform their existing business models

Ÿ   Rethink overall strategy in order to either capture new growth opportunities, or consolidate the market around the existing portfolio

Ÿ   Define a long term technology roadmap and strategic positioning in the value chain, regarding both product and service offering

Ÿ   Implement a lower operating cost base and ensure sufficient financing for the upcoming transition at the same time

Ÿ   Adapt organizational structure and governance model to successfully manage new emerging technologies and competencies alongside old declining technologies under one roof

Ÿ   Create a new company mindset and culture to foster innovation, which is of paramount importance to compete in the new technology areas

Ÿ   Build up new partnerships and leverage this ecosystem to find new ways to innovate

During the meeting, Mr. Ron Zheng , the Automotive Partner at Roland Berger, will share with you the main observations in the 2018 Roland Berger Global Supplier Report, with a focus on the Chinese auto supplier industry.

Ron Zheng is a Partner and Vice President of Roland Berger Greater China. As an expert in automotive consulting industry, he has more than 10 years of professional consulting and management experience, as well as a broad client portfolio that includes many SOEs, MNCs and listed companies. He has led the firm's Greater China Auto Competence Center to contribute a handful of classic consulting cases for the development and upgrade of China's automotive industry.

Ron Zheng has steered a number of key projects across the automotive value chain, from new energy vehicles, smart mobility, marketing, branding to aftersales, providing strategic insight and help to automotive OEMs, suppliers, distributors and investors at home and aboard. He also has strong expertise in outbound M&A/PMI, and organizational structure optimization.

Ron Zheng holds a Master of Business Administration degree of INSEAD, and a Bachelor degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering of Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.
