Dear AFB Working Group members,
The European Chamber is delighted to invite you to join our AFB Working Group Meeting on Friday 8 September 2-4pm at the European Chamber Shanghai and Beijing Offices via videoconference facility.
The importance of food safety is at an all-time high and it remains an important priority for many stakeholders around the world, including food enterprises, regulatory agencies and consumers. Among all available tools and methods, “food safety by design” is the essence to guarantee the food safety for consumers. It is the core of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) to illustrate risk versus hazard and take preventive actions to mitigate the risks rather than reactive to incompliance testing results. It covers the holistic approaches through R&D and supply chain. Firstly, all realistic hazards must be properly identified in Formulation and Process design phase. Preventive measures then can be well defined and establishing effective controls for significant hazards. Thereafter the control measures have to be validated from lab-scale to pilot scale. Secondly, implementing designs under Good Manufacturing Practice/ Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (GHP/HACCP) at operational scale after validation is essential to ensure all proper designed parameters can be achieved. Verifying control measures during manufacture is key to monitor the production performance so as to take timely corrective actions when necessary.
In this meeting, Mr. Navy Hong, Applied Microbiology Manger of Unilever, will share us Unilever’s practice on “food safety by design” – an effective and successful approach to ensure food safety for consumers by a lot of good examples. And some of recalls or outbreaks also proved the adverse effect if not implement this principle.
