The Petrochemicals, Chemicals & Refining and Investment Working Groups are glad to invite you to their next Joint Working Group Meeting, which will take place on Monday, 3rd July, 16:00-18:00 at the European Chamber Shanghai Office. Members from Beijing can join via videoconference. During this meeting, we will have a presentation and a discussion about the recent M&A deals in the chemical sector.
Last May 22nd Swiss specialty chemicals maker Clariant and Texas' Huntsman announced their plans to join and create a company with a value of USD 13.8 billion. Indeed, this is the last of a long series of deals in an industry that is seeking to consolidate since 2015. For example, DuPont and Dow merger (announced in December 2015 and repeatedly postponed), Lanxess acquisition of Chemtura (September 2016), Praxair and Linde AG merger (December 2016), PPG industries offer for Akzo Nobel (April 2017, second offer) and Chemchina and Sinochem merger (in talks, not officially announced yet) are some of the most significant recent non-organic movements in the industry. The chemical sector is under a global consolidation trend of long-standing and deep consequences.
The PCR and the Investment WG are organising this joint meeting to discuss about the impact of this restructuring process on the industry in China, and globally. Mr. Herve Roesch, Partner, Transaction Services, PwC, National Chair of the Investment WG, will make a presentation to our members, followed by a roundtable discussion moderated by Mr. Jan Kreibaum, Regional Head China and South Korea, Clariant, National Chair of the PCR WG.
