Innovation in the Systems Lies at the Core of Healthcare Reform. Therefore, China’s healthcare reform in the years to come should be carried through in an integrated, systematic and coordinated manner as it is doomed to run up against deeply entrenched vested interests at various levels. There are also external factors at play during the process: the new normal of the Chinese economy, the accelerated pace of industrialization, urbanization, and aging of the population, a broader spectrum of diseases, an ever-changing ecological environment and lifestyle, and mushrooming of medical innovations, to name just a few.
Considering that medical insurance providers, hospitals and pharmaceutical companies are closely knitted in the healthcare reform, only innovation in the systems will constantly bring them benefits and thus spur them on to join hands in pushing forward the reform. In other words, they will have the motivation to shift the focus from laying the groundwork of medical services to enhancing service quality, from establishing a healthcare reform framework to improving the systems, and from making small breakthroughs in just a few areas to promoting a systematic integration and overall progress. Such an innovative approach is expected to solve this thorny problem facing every country in the world.
