On Wednesday, 20th September 2017, Position Paper 2017/2018 – European Business in China was launched by the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China. The European Business in China – Position Paper is the European Chamber’s primary annual publication. The 17th edition of the Position Paper offers Chinese policy-makers 795 recommendations that draw directly from the knowledge and expertise of the European Chamber’s more than 1,600 member companies. In this year’s paper, the Chamber evaluates how the Chinese authorities have so far lived up to the commitments to economic globalization and openness expressed during President Xi’s speech at the World Economic Forum. It also looks at the peace of implementation of State Council Document NO.5 released in January 2017, which focus on how to take further steps to open up to the outside, to create an environment of fair competition, and to strengthen efforts to attract foreign investments.

 

In order to let more people know about Position Paper 2017/2018 – European Business in China, the media roundtable meeting was held in advance. In this meeting, speeches were given by Mr. Bernhard Weber, EUCCC Nanjing Board Chair and Ms. Yu Huixun, Director of International Dept., Phoenix Vocational Education Group.

 

More than 60 people attended the launch event. In the event, a presentation of the Executive Position Paper was given by Adam Dunnett, Secretary General of European Chamber and panel speeches were given by Mr. Bernhard Weber, Chairman of the European Chamber of Commerce Nanjing; Mr. Miro Kolesar, deputy head of Retail Banking Asia, BNP Paribas; and Dr. Peter Leibkuechler, dean of Deutsch-Chinesisches Institut für Rechtswissenschaft der Universitäten Göttingen und Nanjing. Official opening of the educational platform with Phoenix Vocational Education Group – on developing high level cooperation between schools and enterprises was held in the event.
