Meeting with the Association of European Heating Industry and Shanghai Gas Bureau on Recent European and Chinese Regulatory Updates on Residential Heating Products

On 21st January, the European Chamber organised a meeting between the Association of European Heating Industry (EHI) and the Shanghai Gas Bureau. EHI Delegates representing the Europe-China Heating Initiative (ECHI) included Mr Klaus Jesse, the Chairman of the EHI Executive Council, Mr Andreas Lücke, the Secretary of the Department of Market Research and International Market and Mr Paolo Basso, the Regulatory Affairs Manager of EHI.

Mr Qian Bin, the Chief of Gas Equipment and Appliance Management at the Shanghai Gas Bureau was invited to discuss recent European and Chinese regulatory updates for residential heating products.

The EHI delegates and Mr Qian introduced their respective organisations and roles before moving onto discuss the regulations and standards for installation and maintenance of heating products in both Europe and China. The main topic of discussion was the installation of neutralization devices within condensing boilers. EHI delegates advocated that it is not necessary to install neutralization devices within condensing products, highlighting the findings of various studies and common European practices. Mr Qian reiterated that installing neutralization devices is simply a suggested measure and enterprises can alternatively use a label indicating that the condensates will not be discharged arbitrarily.
