Meeting with Shanghai Commerce DG on BCS and CIIE

On 23rd July, Ms Shang Yuying, Director General of Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, visited the Chamber's Shanghai Chapter and met with Mr Carlo D'Andrea, Chairman of the Shanghai Board and Vice President of the European Chamber, to exchange views on local business environment. Mr. D'Andrea shared key findings of the latest Business Confidence Survey and highlighted a few issues that the local European business is most concerned about, including administrative burdens, lack of a level playing field, market access barriers in some key sectors and forced technology transfer. While the Chamber sees the Shanghai Municipal Government has made greater efforts in improving local business environment, the European business urges the local authorities take bolder reforms and create a level playing field to allow domestic and foreign businesses to compete fairly. Ms. Shang also provided an update of the current status of the China International Import Expo organisation and appointed one colleague to be point of contact for the Chamber members.
